Robinhood has activated cryptocurrency trading for UK clients through Bitstamp UK Ltd, the regulated entity it acquired in 2025. British customers can now access over fifty digital assets including Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP via the same platform they use for ISAs, equities and derivatives. The rollout forms part of Robinhood’s broader European expansion strategy announced mid-2024.

The crypto service operates on a zero-fee model with no trading commissions, account maintenance charges or custody fees, positioning Robinhood as a cost-competitive alternative in the UK retail market. This pricing approach directly challenges existing platforms and could pressure incumbents to revisit their fee structures or enhance value propositions through alternative service features.

Robinhood is deploying additional infrastructure to support the offering. Cortex Digests applies generative AI to synthesise market data, news and technical indicators into accessible explanations for retail users. Separately, Robinhood Chain provides UK developers with a Layer 2 blockchain environment built on Arbitrum for building applications within its digital asset ecosystem.

The launch demonstrates how US fintechs are leveraging acquisitions of regulated entities to accelerate market entry in jurisdictions with established crypto frameworks. Bitstamp UK’s existing authorisation enables Robinhood to offer crypto services without navigating a protracted standalone registration process, offering a blueprint for similar cross-border strategies.

Brokers facing client acquisition headwinds should monitor whether zero-fee crypto models cannibalise traditional CFD flows or instead attract entirely new demographics that complement existing product suites.
