Cryptocurrency exchange BingX has introduced contract-for-difference trading on forex, commodities, indices and precious metals, joining a growing trend of crypto platforms diversifying into traditional financial instruments. The Singapore-based exchange announced the expansion in August 2026, stating that eligible users can access the CFD products through existing accounts with MetaTrader 5 integration. This move mirrors recent strategies by competitors Nexo and Bybit, which launched similar traditional finance products in 2024.

The platform will offer leveraged trading on both long and short positions, with CFD settlements based on price differentials rather than ownership of underlying assets. BingX positioned the expansion as a unified trading environment allowing clients to manage digital and traditional assets without switching platforms. However, the announcement lacked crucial regulatory details, including which jurisdictions would have access to the CFD offering and under what licensing arrangements.

The convergence of crypto and traditional CFD trading raises significant compliance questions for the industry. Different asset classes typically fall under separate regulatory regimes, and cross-border CFD provision requires appropriate authorisation in each jurisdiction. Crypto exchanges entering regulated derivatives markets must navigate substantially different supervisory expectations around capital requirements, client money protection, and marketing restrictions compared to unregulated token trading.

For established FX and CFD brokers, these developments signal intensifying competition from well-funded crypto platforms seeking revenue diversification as digital asset trading volumes plateau.

Crypto platforms expanding into CFDs without transparent jurisdiction-specific licensing disclosure should prompt established brokers to scrutinise competitive positioning while regulators will likely demand clearer demarcation between regulated and unregulated offerings.
