Singaporean national Malone Lam, 22, pleaded guilty on September 8, 2026, to leading an international cybercrime conspiracy that stole over $245 million in cryptocurrency between October 2023 and May 2025. The operation’s largest single heist netted $245 million from a Washington D.C. resident in August 2024 without breaking any blockchain encryption.
Lam’s enterprise operated like a legitimate business with specialized divisions: database hackers acquired victim lists from breaches and dark web purchases, analysts identified high-value targets, social engineers executed phone-based impersonation attacks, and money launderers converted stolen crypto into cash and goods. In one instance, Lam provided co-conspirator Conor Flansburg with 40 stolen databases in exchange for 20% of thefts exceeding $10 million. Some operatives physically broke into homes to seize hardware wallets.
The case highlights how cryptocurrency theft has evolved into structured, hierarchical fraud operations mirroring transnational organized crime models documented in Ukrainian call centers.
