The euro faces mounting downside pressure against the US dollar ahead of critical central bank meetings, according to ING analyst Francesco Pesole. Despite stronger-than-expected second-quarter eurozone growth and resilience to geopolitical tensions and commodity price shocks, the single currency remains relatively expensive and vulnerable to correction.

Market participants are now focusing on upcoming monetary policy decisions from both the European Central Bank and the Federal Reserve, which could catalyze renewed weakness in EUR/USD. The euro’s recent strength appears disconnected from fundamental support, with current valuations leaving limited upside potential while increasing downside risk exposure.

The timing is particularly significant as traders position ahead of central bank guidance that may reveal diverging policy paths between the ECB and Fed. Any dovish signals from Frankfurt or hawkish messaging from Washington could accelerate euro depreciation.

EUR/USD traders should prepare for potential downside volatility and consider reducing long euro exposure or implementing downside hedges before the ECB and Fed meetings deliver policy clarity.
