MetaQuotes rolled out MetaTrader 5 Build 6180 on Thursday, September 3, 2026, significantly expanding AI Assistant capabilities for algorithmic trading. External AI agents connected through Model Context Protocol can now pull reports and logs from the Strategy Tester, analyze performance data, and launch optimization runs independently. This positions MT5 as an increasingly autonomous platform for developing and refining trading bots without requiring manual intervention at each testing stage.
The update builds on MCP support first introduced in July 2026 with Build 6060. While the AI Assistant now handles research, debugging, and optimization tasks, MetaQuotes has not enabled live trading decisions—a deliberate limit that sets it apart from competitors. Spotware’s cTrader AI Agent Connect and eToro’s Agent Portfolios both allow AI agents to execute real trades directly, taking automation substantially further than MetaQuotes’ current approach.
MetaQuotes reported over 1 trillion tokens processed within three weeks of the July MCP launch, though no updated usage figures have been disclosed since.
FXnCO Insight
MT5 users gain powerful bot development tools, but those seeking fully autonomous AI trading must still look to cTrader or eToro.
