# Breaking News: Tickmill Co-Founder Warns CFD Brokers Face Extinction Without Diversification
Tickmill co-founder Ingmar Mattus is sounding the alarm on the CFD brokerage industry, warning that firms refusing to diversify face potential collapse within the next two years. Speaking alongside TradersYard co-founder Manuel Sonnleithner, Mattus told Finance Magnates that launching and scaling brokerages in 2026 has become dramatically harder than when he started Tickmill in 2014.
The landscape has fundamentally shifted. CFD brokers now compete not just with each other but with futures platforms, prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket, and equity brokers offering leveraged options, all targeting the same client base. Mattus compared today’s pressure to the binary options era that drained CFD client flow years ago. Multiple industry names have already sold or shuttered operations.
Mattus now backs TradersYard through his Swiss private equity vehicle Andromeda Capital Partners, bringing critical risk management expertise to the Vienna-based prop trading firm.
