Pelican has secured South Africa’s first regulatory license for copy trading services, gaining approval from the Financial Sector Conduct Authority in June 2026 under FSP number 55408. The London-based provider received authorization for portfolio management and investment advice through its London & Eastern entity, mirroring its regulatory approach in the UK and Europe.
The license allows Pelican to offer white-label copy trading infrastructure to South African brokers, supporting MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and cTrader platforms. The approval treats copy trading as a regulated financial service rather than mere technology, since trades are automatically replicated across client accounts. Co-founder Mike Read emphasized that South African brokers wanting regulated copy trading now have only one licensed specialist provider available.
The development strengthens Pelican’s B2B position in South Africa’s active FX and CFD market, where regulated brokers must now consider licensing requirements when selecting copy trading technology partners.

** South African brokers offering copy trading should immediately verify their technology provider’s regulatory status, as automated signal replication may require portfolio management authorization.
