AI-driven demand for memory and GPU capacity is forcing major server providers to sharply increase pricing, directly impacting retail traders who run automated strategies. Since April, providers including Hetzner, OVHcloud, and Leaseweb have raised VPS costs between 20 and 144 percent, with Hetzner’s Germany-based CPX22 jumping from 7.99 euros to 19.49 euros monthly. The increases typically apply to new contracts while existing customers maintain current rates temporarily.
The pricing pressure stems from memory manufacturers prioritizing AI and high-bandwidth computing over standard server infrastructure. Equinix reported AI workloads represented roughly 60 percent of its largest Q1 datacenter deals, while Micron confirmed AI memory demand exceeds industry supply. For algorithmic traders, the cost burden falls into three categories: self-hosted VPS rentals, broker-subsidized hosting tied to trading volume, or platform-embedded execution environments like MetaTrader’s MQL5 network at 10-15 dollars monthly.

** Traders running memory-intensive algorithms should lock existing VPS contracts now before renewal cycles trigger price increases, or evaluate broker-hosted solutions to offset rising infrastructure costs.
