Ripple has partnered with South Korea’s Jeonbuk Bank to deploy blockchain-based cross-border payment infrastructure, marking the first regional Korean bank to adopt Ripple Payments technology. The deal enables near real-time international settlement for business clients who previously faced multi-day transfer delays through traditional banking channels.

The deployment represents a significant expansion of Ripple’s footprint in the Korean market, where cross-border commerce remains heavily reliant on legacy SWIFT-based systems. Jeonbuk Bank’s adoption signals growing institutional acceptance of blockchain solutions for international remittances in Asia’s fourth-largest economy, potentially pressuring competing regional banks to modernize their payment rails.

The move comes as South Korean businesses increasingly demand faster settlement times for international transactions, particularly with key trading partners across Asia. Traditional wire transfers typically require two to five business days for completion, creating liquidity constraints and operational inefficiencies for exporters and importers.

Traders should monitor whether additional Korean regional banks follow Jeonbuk’s lead, as widespread adoption could accelerate won-denominated transaction volumes and potentially impact forex settlement patterns across Asian corridors.
