Cboe has postponed its highly anticipated early-hours options trading launch indefinitely, removing the August 17 start date without announcing a replacement. The exchange updated its schedule on August 10, changing the go-live date to “TBD” and canceling planned weekend customer tests. No reason was provided for the delay, marking the second postponement after Cboe initially targeted July 13.

The Global Trading Hours session was designed to run from 7:30 a.m. to 9:25 a.m. Eastern Time, covering 21 high-volume stocks including Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta. The expanded window would have given traders access to options flow and implied volatility signals during the equity premarket, a critical period for price discovery. Only limit orders would be accepted during the extended session.

The postponement is unrelated to Cboe’s separate proposal for near 24-hour stock trading on its EDGX exchange, which targets December 2026 pending regulatory approval.

** Traders relying on premarket options data for positioning must continue using less liquid instruments or wait for the 9:30 a.m. open, extending information gaps during volatile overnight sessions.
