German digital bank N26 has integrated Wero instant payments into its mobile app, giving customers in Germany and France access to the European Payments Initiative’s digital wallet solution. The rollout began today and allows users to send and receive money within seconds using just a phone number or email address, eliminating the need to exchange IBAN details.

The move positions N26 as an early adopter of Europe’s homegrown alternative to dominant US payment platforms, potentially accelerating Wero’s penetration across the continent’s digital banking ecosystem. Customers with N26 accounts in Germany and France can immediately access the feature, streamlining peer-to-peer transfers and challenging established services like PayPal and Venmo in these key European markets.

The integration represents a significant step in Europe’s push for payment sovereignty and reduced reliance on American payment infrastructure. N26’s twenty-six million customers now have direct access to the EPI network, which aims to create a unified European payment system.

Payment processors and forex platforms operating in Europe should monitor Wero adoption rates closely, as widespread integration could reshape cross-border euro transaction flows and impact existing payment routing arrangements.
