Coinbase has launched US stock trading for UK users starting Thursday, allowing access to nearly 4,000 US equities through the same platform used for crypto holdings. The service offers zero-commission trades, fractional shares from as little as £1, and operates 24 hours daily, five days weekly, extending well beyond standard NYSE and Nasdaq trading windows. Users can fund purchases with GBP or USDC, with stablecoin balances directly applicable to stock transactions.

The rollout follows Coinbase securing UK Financial Conduct Authority authorization in July 2026 to expand beyond crypto into investment services including equities, derivatives, and savings products. This forms part of Coinbase’s stated “Everything Exchange” strategy, consolidating crypto, stocks, derivatives, and lending onto one platform. The company already launched a GBP savings account in November 2025 and crypto-backed borrowing in April 2026 for UK clients.

Coinbase now directly competes with established multi-asset platforms like eToro in the UK retail market, though its regulatory-first approach distinguishes its expansion strategy.
