Robinhood has officially secured FCA approval to offer crypto services in the UK, finalizing its registry entry on July 31 after years of setbacks. The US trading platform previously abandoned a 2020 British launch that left 250,000 users waiting, and saw a 2022 acquisition of crypto platform Ziglu collapse before finally establishing a UK presence in 2023. The approval places Robinhood among roughly fifty FCA-registered crypto firms including eToro and Interactive Brokers.
The timing is strategic, coming ahead of a critical September deadline when firms must apply for licenses under the UK’s incoming 2027 regulatory framework. However, Robinhood faces formidable competition from entrenched players like Revolut in a market where it lacks household name recognition. The FCA has softened its stance on crypto regulation, cutting proposed stablecoin capital requirements from 2% to 1% following industry pushback.

Traders should monitor whether Robinhood’s low-fee model can disrupt UK crypto pricing dynamics before September’s licensing rush intensifies competitive pressure across the sector.
