The National Bank of Egypt has teamed with Mastercard to roll out Egypt’s first corporate debit card denominated in US dollars, marking a significant shift in the country’s business payment infrastructure. The new product allows Egyptian companies to conduct international transactions directly in USD, bypassing traditional foreign exchange conversion requirements that have historically complicated cross-border payments.
This launch comes as Egypt continues to manage currency pressures and foreign exchange liquidity challenges that have constrained business operations. The USD corporate card gives companies immediate access to hard currency for supplier payments, business travel, and international procurement without navigating Egypt’s often restrictive FX market. NBE, as the country’s largest state-owned bank, is positioning this product to serve its extensive corporate client base seeking smoother international transaction capabilities.
The move signals both Mastercard’s expansion in North African fintech infrastructure and Egypt’s incremental steps toward easing business access to foreign currency amid ongoing economic reforms.

Companies operating in or with Egyptian counterparties should monitor adoption rates of this USD card product as an indicator of improving cross-border payment flows in the market.
