Oil markets experienced sharp volatility as traders reacted to developments in US-Iran tensions, according to UOB strategists. West Texas Intermediate crude plunged to USD 79.26 per barrel while Brent crude fell to USD 84.10 as the United States military campaign against Iran remained paused. The price swings reflect heightened uncertainty as markets attempt to price in geopolitical risk premiums tied to potential Middle East supply disruptions.

The immediate selloff suggests traders are unwinding previously built-up risk premiums that had elevated prices during peak tensions. Energy traders, commodities brokers, and firms with oil exposure should monitor developments closely as any resumption of military action could trigger rapid reversals. The pause in hostilities removes immediate supply threat concerns from the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-fifth of global oil supply transits.

Traders should maintain tight stop-losses on oil positions and prepare for continued two-way volatility as US-Iran developments remain fluid and capable of triggering rapid price swings in either direction.
