Rothera, the prediction market exchange jointly owned by Robinhood and Susquehanna, has implemented Eventus’ Validus surveillance platform to monitor trading activity across its CFTC-regulated derivatives venue. The deployment comes as prediction markets experience surging volumes, with Rothera’s World Cup contracts alone generating 3.5 billion trades by mid-July following the exchange’s May launch.

The surveillance system will scan for manipulative practices including spoofing, layering, and wash trading across both fully collateralized and margined event contracts. Rothera joins competitors Novig and Kalshi in adopting third-party monitoring technology as regulatory scrutiny intensifies. Chief Compliance Officer Kevin Dan emphasized that reliable surveillance underpins the exchange’s ability to maintain fair and orderly markets compliant with CFTC Core Principles.

Event-based markets face unique monitoring challenges beyond traditional derivatives surveillance, including detecting trades by participants who could influence outcomes or possess non-public information about real-world events being wagered on.
