Swiss regional bank BancaStato is entering the cryptocurrency market through a partnership with digital asset banking group Sygnum, moving live on Sygnum’s B2B banking platform. The collaboration enables BancaStato clients to access regulated digital asset services including custody and trading capabilities for the first time. Sygnum confirmed the integration today, marking another traditional Swiss financial institution embracing crypto infrastructure amid growing institutional demand.

The partnership leverages technology from Avaloq, a banking software provider, to integrate digital asset services into BancaStato’s existing operations. This development reflects the accelerating trend of European regional banks adding cryptocurrency offerings to compete with larger institutions and meet evolving client expectations. BancaStato serves the Ticino canton in southern Switzerland, giving thousands of retail and corporate clients newly regulated access to digital assets through their existing banking relationship.

Market watchers note this signals continued mainstream adoption of crypto services within traditional Swiss banking, potentially pressuring other regional banks to follow suit or risk losing clients to digitally-enabled competitors.
