European payments platform myPOS has partnered with Bancomat, Italy’s dominant domestic payment network, to enable acceptance of Bancomat cards for its Italian merchant base. The integration expands payment options for myPOS clients across Italy, where Bancomat remains the most widely recognized card scheme among local consumers and businesses.
The move addresses a critical gap in payment acceptance for the 350,000-plus small businesses myPOS serves across more than 30 European markets. Italian merchants using myPOS terminals can now process transactions from Bancomat cardholders, significantly broadening their customer reach in a market where domestic payment preferences remain strong despite growing international card usage.
The partnership positions myPOS to compete more effectively in Italy’s fragmented SME payments landscape, where local payment methods continue to command substantial market share. Payment service providers operating in Italy or considering market entry should note the persistent importance of domestic scheme integration for merchant acquisition and retention strategies.

Payment platforms seeking European SME market penetration must prioritize local scheme partnerships alongside international card networks to capture full transaction volume potential.
