PayPoint has finalized its acquisition of AperiData, a UK-based credit reference agency and open banking provider, building on an earlier £1 million strategic investment in the firm. The transaction, completed today, expands PayPoint’s financial services capabilities into credit assessment and open banking infrastructure.

The deal gives PayPoint direct access to credit referencing technology and open banking solutions at a time when UK financial institutions are increasingly integrating real-time data services. AperiData’s platform serves lenders and financial service providers with credit risk assessment tools and account verification capabilities.

PayPoint, which operates retail payment networks and bill payment services across the UK, now positions itself to offer enhanced financial data services to its existing merchant and banking partners. The acquisition strengthens the company’s fintech offering beyond traditional transaction processing into data-driven lending decisions.

Market implications include increased competition in the UK credit reference sector currently dominated by Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. The move also signals continued consolidation in open banking infrastructure as established payment firms expand their service portfolios.

Financial institutions using PayPoint infrastructure should anticipate new credit assessment and open banking integration opportunities within their existing payment workflows.
