Skilling CEO George Kyriakoudes warned that retail trading brokers can no longer rely on marketing gimmicks to attract clients, declaring the era of easy customer acquisition is over. Speaking on FM Talks, the former CFO who took over leadership in 2024 emphasized that today’s retail traders are fundamentally different from the stereotyped “dumb money” of the 2021 GameStop frenzy.

Kyriakoudes, who leads the Cyprus-based broker focused on Western European markets, described modern retail traders as significantly more informed, technologically enabled, and globally connected. These traders actively consume macroeconomic content, understand central bank policy, and compare execution quality across platforms with increasing sophistication. Critically, they demonstrate minimal loyalty to single asset classes or platforms, rapidly migrating between crypto, gold, and prediction markets based on opportunities.

The demographic shift is equally notable, with younger traders showing greater comfort with leverage and derivatives. Industry data suggests Gen Z investors allocate roughly twenty-five percent of portfolios to derivatives and crypto.

Brokers must prioritize execution quality and genuine value delivery over marketing tactics, as informed retail traders now have the tools and knowledge to rapidly switch platforms.
