OKX has appointed Maxim Orlov, a former Bybit and Crypto.com executive with over 15 years of experience, to spearhead its CIS regional operations as competition for institutional crypto trading intensifies. Orlov previously managed high-value clients across Western Europe, CIS, and Latin America during his four-year tenure at Bybit. The exchange is actively building a local VIP team, with open positions requiring Russian fluency and regular regional travel for direct client engagement.
The strategic push targets a lucrative market where Russia led European crypto adoption in 2025 according to Chainalysis, while Kyrgyzstan alone processed over 11 billion dollars in exchange volume during early 2025 across 13 licensed exchanges. OKX revised its fee structure in March 2026 as major platforms battle for institutional flow, with VIP tiers generating higher margins despite lower volumes. The exchange’s MiCA and Payment Institution licenses provide regulated access appealing to institutional clients navigating fragmented CIS regulatory frameworks.

OKX’s boots-on-the-ground VIP expansion into CIS signals institutional crypto competition is shifting from product features to relationship-driven regional coverage with regulatory backing.
