IG Group is set to broaden its cryptocurrency trading services across the European Union through a new partnership with Bitpanda, the Germany-based digital asset platform. The arrangement will see Bitpanda supply the technical infrastructure including liquidity provision, trading connectivity and market data feeds, enabling IG Europe to offer crypto products without developing proprietary backend systems. The move follows IG’s entry into spot crypto trading in the UK market earlier this year via a tie-up with Uphold, supported by a cryptoasset licence granted by the FCA.

Bitpanda secured a MiCA licence from BaFin in 2024, authorising it to operate crypto services across all EU member states under the bloc’s harmonised regulatory regime. This framework establishes stringent standards for capital requirements, custody arrangements, risk management and investor protection, marking a significant elevation in compliance expectations for digital asset providers. IG Europe, also regulated by BaFin, has not yet disclosed a launch timeline for the expanded offering.

The partnership reflects a broader strategic shift among established brokers seeking to diversify into digital assets while outsourcing regulatory and operational complexity. For IG’s 1.3 million global clients, the expansion promises access to cryptocurrency markets alongside traditional instruments. The arrangement demonstrates how MiCA-licensed entities are becoming preferred infrastructure partners for regulated brokers entering the crypto space.

** Multi-asset brokers expanding into crypto should carefully evaluate white-label infrastructure partnerships with MiCA-compliant providers to accelerate market entry while managing regulatory burden and capital requirements.
