Hong Kong’s ZA Bank has partnered with Industrial Bank to launch the Cross-boundary Wealth Management Connect Southbound Scheme, becoming the first digital bank in Hong Kong to offer this cross-border investment service. The move enables mainland Chinese investors in the Greater Bay Area to access wealth management products in Hong Kong through ZA Bank’s digital platform.
The Southbound Scheme is part of China’s wealth management connect initiative linking Hong Kong, Macau, and nine mainland cities in Guangdong province. This development significantly expands ZA Bank’s addressable market while positioning the digital lender ahead of traditional banking competitors in capturing cross-border investment flows. The partnership with Industrial Bank provides mainland customers a regulated channel to diversify holdings into Hong Kong financial products.
The announcement affects wealth management providers, currency traders, and fintech platforms operating in the Greater Bay Area, potentially driving increased capital flows between Hong Kong and mainland China. Traditional banks may face pressure to accelerate digital wealth management offerings to remain competitive.
