OANDA Securities Japan is rolling out passkey authentication this month for client logins across its My Page, FxTrade, and TradingView platforms in response to escalating phishing attacks and new regulatory requirements. The move follows Japan’s Financial Services Agency updating its unauthorized access prevention guidelines in October 2025 amid rising credential-based breaches targeting financial firms.

The biometric and device PIN-based system will initially be optional but will become mandatory at an unspecified future date. Passkeys eliminate traditional password vulnerabilities by removing stored or transmitted credentials that hackers typically exploit. Clients need Windows 11, macOS 13, iOS 16, or Android 11 or higher with updated browsers to access the feature.

The security upgrade accompanies OANDA Japan’s broader infrastructure overhaul. The broker is discontinuing web-based MetaTrader access at end-May and plans mandatory multi-factor authentication for MT5 by fall 2026. MT4 faces complete retirement in November as the firm phases out legacy systems.

FXnCO Insight

OANDA Japan clients should prepare for mandatory passkey adoption and migrate from web-based MetaTrader platforms before the May deadline to avoid trading disruptions.
