Norges Bank is widely expected to hold its key interest rate at 4.25% at today’s policy meeting, but analysts are flagging potential dovish signals that could weigh on the Norwegian krone in the near term. ING’s Francesco Pesole warns that recent benign core inflation data may push the central bank toward softer communication, reducing expectations for aggressive tightening ahead.

While ING still anticipates one additional rate hike later this year, Pesole has grown skeptical about prospects for multiple increases that markets had previously priced in. This dovish recalibration comes as Norway’s CPI-ATE readings show cooling price pressures, giving policymakers room to adopt a more cautious stance.

Despite these near-term headwinds, ING maintains a bullish outlook on the krone specifically against the euro, suggesting relative strength in the cross even if absolute NOK performance disappoints.

Traders should watch for any dovish language shifts in today’s Norges Bank statement that could trigger immediate NOK weakness, though EUR/NOK shorts remain attractive on a medium-term view.
