Monex Group has enabled Japanese retail brokerage clients to access account information through ChatGPT and Claude using the Model Context Protocol, marking what the firm claims is the first such service among major Japanese securities firms. The integration went live Wednesday, allowing customers to check assets, order status, deposit and withdrawal history, and mutual fund data through natural-language AI conversations without opening traditional platforms.

The service operates via a dedicated MCP server and is available as a ChatGPT plugin and Claude custom connector. Notably, the functionality covers account information and analysis tools only, not live trading execution. The rollout follows similar moves by Monex’s US subsidiary TradeStation in January and recent AI integrations at IG Australia and Interactive Brokers, signaling accelerating adoption of AI-powered interfaces across retail brokerage.

The development could pressure Japanese competitors to fast-track similar offerings as clients increasingly expect conversational access to financial data.
