Latvia’s central bank Latvijas Banka has granted SIA Fibonatix (LV) a payment institution license on 11 June, authorizing the company to provide payment acceptance services in the country. The licensing decision was made by the bank’s Supervision Committee, marking another addition to Latvia’s regulated fintech landscape.
The authorization allows Fibonatix to operate as a full payment institution under Latvian regulatory oversight, focusing specifically on payment acceptance activities. This licensing development comes as European payment services continue to see regulatory scrutiny and consolidation across member states.
Payment acceptance services enable merchants to receive digital and card payments from customers, positioning Fibonatix to compete in Latvia’s growing digital payments sector. The license represents formal regulatory approval for the company’s operations following what was likely an extensive application and vetting process by Latvijas Banka’s supervisory authorities.
FXnCO Insight
Market participants should monitor whether Fibonatix pursues EU passporting rights to expand payment acceptance services across other European Economic Area jurisdictions, which could accelerate regional competition in merchant acquiring.
