Thailand’s Kasikornbank and Ant International have signed a memorandum of understanding to deploy JPMorgan’s Kinexys blockchain platform for real-time cross-border US Dollar settlements. The partnership will leverage blockchain rails to accelerate USD transaction processing between the two institutions, moving away from traditional correspondent banking delays.

The collaboration marks a significant step in Southeast Asian banking infrastructure modernization, with KBank becoming one of the first major Thai banks to adopt institutional blockchain technology for dollar-denominated cross-border payments. Ant International, the global arm of China’s Ant Group, will work alongside the Thai lender to implement the Kinexys system, which JPMorgan has been positioning as an enterprise-grade alternative to legacy SWIFT messaging.

The immediate market impact centers on reduced settlement times and lower transaction costs for Thai-China USD corridors, potentially affecting forex spreads and liquidity flows in the region. Regional payment processors and correspondent banks may face increased competitive pressure.
