Cypriot authorities have arrested three individuals linked to a sophisticated cryptocurrency fraud operation that defrauded Belgian and Dutch investors of tens of millions of euros. The Europol-coordinated raids, involving police from Cyprus, Belgium, and Greece, dismantled a call center network that used fake celebrity endorsements and remote-access software to manipulate victims.
The suspects operated like professional investment advisers, using social media ads featuring Benelux public figures to generate leads. Once contacted, victims were guided through account setup while fraudsters remotely accessed their devices to redirect funds into crypto wallets. When investors attempted withdrawals, they were hit with additional fraudulent fee requests. Police seized hardware wallets, computers, and fifty thousand euros cash that may expose broader laundering networks.
The operation reflects a strategic enforcement shift across Europe from shutting down fraudulent websites to dismantling the organizational infrastructure behind them. Cyprus continues emerging as a critical enforcement focus for cross-border crypto fraud.

Brokers and platforms should immediately audit client onboarding processes and flag any remote-access requests as potential fraud indicators.
