Interactive Brokers on Tuesday opened its AI account connector to any tool running the Model Context Protocol, eliminating the requirement to route through certified marketplaces. Clients can now directly link accounts from Claude Code, Cursor, Perplexity and Windsurf by pasting a connector URL into custom server settings and authorizing through IBKR’s login screen. Previously, access required going through vetted marketplaces operated by ChatGPT, Claude and Grok.
The broker first connected to Claude on June 1st, adding ChatGPT and Grok three weeks later with options and futures coverage, all through controlled channels. This expansion follows similar moves by platform vendors including Spotware’s cTrader in May and ThinkMarkets’ ChelseaAI in June. MetaQuotes added MCP support to MetaTrader 5’s beta in mid-July.
Interactive Brokers maintains restrictions on execution, limiting AI to drafting trade instructions that require manual human approval, unlike some competitors allowing direct order placement.
FXnCO Insight
Brokers embracing open AI integration gain competitive advantage in attracting tech-forward traders, but IBKR’s human-approval requirement suggests conservative regulatory positioning amid evolving algorithmic trading oversight.
