The British Pound is holding steady against the US Dollar after hitting a one-week high, with GBP/USD finding support from increasing market expectations that the Bank of England will pursue tighter monetary policy. Scotiabank strategists Shaun Osborne and Eric Theoret report the currency is also benefiting from its sensitivity to rising oil prices, which have added momentum to sterling’s recent gains.

The shift in BoE tightening expectations signals traders are pricing in a more hawkish stance from UK policymakers, potentially diverging from Federal Reserve policy direction. This monetary policy differential is creating favorable conditions for pound bulls in near-term forex positioning. The combination of elevated energy prices and anticipated rate moves is proving supportive for sterling against the greenback, reversing some of the pair’s earlier weakness.

Traders should monitor upcoming UK economic data and BoE communications closely, as sustained tightening expectations could drive GBP/USD toward further upside if oil prices remain elevated and rate divergence widens.
