Bank of Maldives has selected Finastra Essence to overhaul its core banking infrastructure as part of a comprehensive digital transformation initiative announced today. The implementation marks a significant technology upgrade for BML, the Maldives’ largest financial institution, as it moves away from legacy systems toward a modern cloud-ready platform designed to enhance operational efficiency and customer experience.
Finastra, a major global provider of financial services software, will deploy its Essence solution to modernize BML’s core operations, enabling the bank to accelerate product launches, improve transaction processing, and expand digital banking capabilities. The partnership positions BML to better compete in an increasingly digital banking landscape while meeting evolving customer expectations across the island nation.
The modernization effort comes as regional banks face mounting pressure to upgrade aging technology systems to support real-time payments, open banking initiatives, and enhanced digital services. BML serves as the country’s primary banking institution, making this transformation critical for the Maldives’ financial ecosystem.
