A Revolut customer who complained about late-night push notifications disrupting his sleep has been awarded £25 compensation following a UK Financial Ombudsman Service ruling. The customer, identified as Mr A, reported receiving two alerts during early morning hours that woke him, caused concern about potential account issues, and impacted his workday performance.
Revolut initially offered the £25 payout and directed the customer to notification management settings, explaining that some communications are required by regulation without time restrictions. The dispute escalated when Revolut mistakenly paid compensation into Mr A’s business account rather than his personal account. Mr A challenged both the payment error and the compensation amount.
Ombudsman James Akehurst upheld the investigator’s findings that Revolut acted within its obligations when sending the notifications and deemed the £25 settlement fair. The ruling required Revolut to redirect payment to the correct account but denied any increase to the compensation amount.
